Buttonwood Financial Group Helps Raise More Than $750,000 For Artists And Nonprofit Organizations

KANSAS CITY, MO: Buttonwood Financial Group (BFG), in partnership with their community-focused art gallery, Buttonwood Art Space (BAS), and numerous nonprofit organizations, crossed $750,000 in funds raised for local nonprofits and artists. Buttonwood Financial Group’s offices serve as an art gallery, hosting 4-5 art exhibitions each year with sales proceeds going to artists and nonprofit organizations. At BAS, generally, 50% of art sales go to artists for their creations and 50% goes to a pre-selected nonprofit organization to support their mission. Buttonwood does not receive any commission. 

Buttonwood Financial Group was founded in 2002 and Buttonwood Art Space launched quickly after in 2005. BFG’s office building, dating back to the 1860s, is located at 3013 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri and was home to Union Hill Arts in the 1980s. Buttonwood President and Founder, Jon McGraw, sought to preserve the history of the building and transformed the offices into an art gallery. BAS began by featuring single artist exhibits in 2005. Local artists quickly heard about the opportunity and requests to exhibit at Buttonwood grew. Today, Buttonwood Art Space invites more than 1,000 artists throughout the region to participate in exhibits. Buttonwood Financial Group sees this program as a win-win-win-win: Artists are selling artwork in a professional gallery, nonprofits are raising money and awareness for their organizations, patrons may be able to get a tax deduction for art purchases (50% considered a charitable contribution), and Buttonwood clients and staff enjoy having rotating local art in their offices, while also being able to give back to the community in a creative way. 

Art exhibitions have benefited organizations such as: Kansas City Parks & Recreation, BikeWalkKC, Sister Cities Association, Friends of Konza Prairie, Synergy Services, Halo Foundation, Kansas City Young Audiences, Jewish Family Services, Kansas City Community Gardens, Great Plains SPCA, Amethyst Place and more. Buttonwood Art Space was founded by Jon and Wendy McGraw in support of the arts in Kansas City. The McGraw’s purchased the 1860’s Buttonwood building in 2005, and expansion in 2013 doubled the size of the gallery to 7,400 sq. ft.  A portion of all sales go to support local and regional charities as the gallery is designated as a place for artists to exhibit and sell their works, and for non-profit groups to raise funds and awareness. Buttonwood Art Space (BAS) is financially supported and underwritten by Buttonwood Financial Group (BFG).
